What is a 40G PSM4 Breakout?

This cable is built specifically for the PSM4 (Parallel Single Mode 4-lane) application. PSM4 uses 8 fibers within the MPO connector to create four independent, parallel singlemode links (4 for transmitting, 4 for receiving). This breakout cable "fans out" these 8 fibers into 4 industry-standard LC duplex connectors, allowing your 40G port to communicate with four separate 10G devices simultaneously, dramatically increasing port utilization and lowering total cost.
